Meet John Evans

John Evans is the insightful and engaging captain of the Spellbound, a 45ft Jeanneau Sun Odyssey sailboat that has become his home away from home and a vessel for sharing his lifelong passion for the sea with others. John has been on the water since childhood, his love for sailing nurtured by the rugged coastline and the endless possibilities of the open ocean.

With decades of sailing experience, John has navigated the East Coast of the United States, from the picturesque harbors of Maine to the sun-drenched waters of Florida. His journey has been marked by incredible achievements, including winning the Newport to Bermuda race as a navigator and claiming victory in the Atlantic Nationals in 2023. As an accomplished collegiate sailor and a certified sailing instructor with 4 years of experience, John has not only honed his own skills but also dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring adult and youth sailors, sharing his love for the ocean with generations of enthusiasts.

What sets John apart is his unique blend of technical expertise, philosophical insight, and genuine passion for helping others grow. With 4,000 miles as Captain on Spellbound and extensive sailing and delivery experience on multiple boats, he is a master of his craft, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all who step aboard. But beyond his impressive resume, John is a patient teacher and a thoughtful mentor, guiding his crew to discover their own strengths, overcome challenges, and find joy in the journey.
